Britain’s next top business model

From running a design consultancy along familiar limited company lines

to setting up a joint venture with Penguin to explore novel work patterns,

Ben Terrett of the Really Interesting Group knows a thing or two about

business models. A new enterprise backed by Channel 4’s venture capital

arm and a partnership that links people with non-design skills are just two

of the organisational hats Ben wears.

Is all this entrepreneurial activity driven by the downturn? Yes and no.

“I don’t recall benefiting from the world’s biggest boom,” Ben says, “so

I don’t think it’s fair to make generalisations about the planet’s deepest

recession.”

What does a new model mean?

How might new charging models work?

How would they affect the way you do business?

Why do designers need to love balance sheets as much as printed sheets

if they want to make their business a ‘business business’?

Says Ben: “This session explores the practice – not the theory – of

different business models and hopefully you’ll discover something new.”
